My name is Michael Lindstrom.  I have been preparing US tax returns for over 22 years!  I started out working for a tax office. My experience and growing knowledge led to me owning and operating an H&R Block office in Wisconsin, helping it grow substantially in only a couple of years.  I love helping people, especially small business owners, navigate the sometimes complex waters of taxes. I also continue to work with individuals that are/were in the military, receive retirement income, live outside the USA or need to complete estate or trust returns. Living outside the USA presents opportunities and challenges to remain compliant with IRS regulations.  I work hard to keep up with all the tax law changes, especially those that affect expats and other who live abroad.

My wife and I love to do volunteer work and moved to Ecuador in 2005 and for years returned to work in the tax field in Wisconsin and Ecuador. In 2014, after gaining my Enrolled Agent status, I started Living Abroad Tax Services LLC based in Ecuador.  We returned to live in the USA in 2021 and continue to prepare and e-file US returns. I have owned and/or managed several businesses (including an H&R Block office that was ranked in the Top 100 one year - out of almost 10,000!) and that experience is helpful when it comes time to assist others!  I also help many get into compliance with the IRS via the Streamlined Foreign Offshore Procedure.  NEW: As of Sept 30, 2025 the IRS is phasing out paper checks for most individual taxpayers. Taxpayers are now required to provide banking info for refunds via direct deposit, prepaid debit cards, or digital wallets.  There are limited exceptions but it is best to provide the bank information.  I added a new button (see below) where you can open a US bank account via American Citizens Abroad.  Payments TO the IRS can still be made by check.

Here is a little background on Mike:

Michael Highfield is an experienced finance and operations professional with a background in banking and a strong background in non-profit corporate accounting. He began his career with a national bank before joining a global non-profit organization. The US national headquarters of the non-profit operates more than 40 international corporations across 27 countries.

During his tenure at the non-profit organization, Mike oversaw the administration and management of leased properties, assisting as a contact for lessors and internal departments. His ability to navigate cross-functional needs and maintain strong relationships positioned him as an essential contributor to operational efficiency.

Mike later advanced into the accounting department, progressing from coordinator to manager in the accounts payable department where he successfully led a team of approximately 40 professionals. His leadership emphasized accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement, strengthening both financial processes and team performance.

Recognized for his operational insight and steady leadership, Mike brings a proven record of supporting complex organizations and guiding high-performing teams.
